The IUOE Local 66 Heavy Equipment Operator Training School is located on 125 acres in New Alexandria, PA. A fleet of approximately 60 machines is available for apprentice and journeyman training. In addition to classroom and hands-on equipment instruction, a large number of training courses and industry-necessary certifications are available such as Crane Operator Certification, Construction Safety Outreach and CDL training and testing.
Local 66 also has an apprenticeship program specifically for Heavy Equipment Mechanic Technicians. The program was developed to meet the increasing demand for these skilled individuals. Mechanic apprentices receive training in all aspects of equipment repair including the proper use of computerized diagnostic programs. Currently, there is a combined total enrollment of 187 registered apprentices in the Operators and Mechanics programs.
Through a cooperative effort between the Operating Engineers and the Pile Drivers, apprentices from both groups are able to train side-by-side in very realistic scenarios as they learn the proper procedures involved in various pile driving operations.
A wide variety of cranes from small hydraulic cranes to large lattice boom cranes are available for instruction. The Program is also authorized as a Mobile Crane Practical Examination Site for the National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators.
