Local 49 Training

On April 14, 2007, Local 49 celebrated the Grand Opening of its new training site in Hinckley, Minnesota. General President Vincent Giblin and Business Manager Glen Johnson both addressed the nearly 3,000 attendees during the dedication ceremony.  They emphasized how important training is in this new age of technology and change.

Local 49’s new training site resides on approximately 400 acres.  The new building includes 10 classrooms, 11 offices, a 6-bay machine shop, a 2-bay welding area, a 2-bay wash rack, and a 30,000 square foot indoor, all weather, training area.

The training program’s staff includes a director, 3 full time office staff, 6 full time instructors, 1 mechanic instructor and 5 part-time seasonal instructors.

Over the 2006-2007 training season (1 year) over 4,000 members of Local 49 received training through the program, either at our site or at out-state locations including North Dakota, South Dakota, and Minnesota.

The training program has 2 CCO certified examiners on site who conduct crane practical tests on a daily basis.

Local 49’s training mission is to empower the members of the Operating Engineers Local 49 through training and education with the knowledge and technical ability necessary to perform as leaders in their given craft.  We, the staff at Local 49 Training, welcome anyone to stop by the training site and see what Local 49 has to offer, or visit our website by clicking here.
